How to win [2]

  • Most times we don’t do things because we haven’t broken them down to the most basic form.
  • Results comes down to the number of skills they have and number of skills required to understand and execute.
  • If you can learn it, it is a skill. If it’s a skill, you can teach it.
  • Operationalize: Explain using actions or behaviours you can see with your eyes
  • We deal with only what we can measure and observe
  • Patience: Figuring our what to do in the meantime. Aka - doing anything besides the thing you’re avoiding, including nothing at all.
  • Traits: aka “bucket of large skills” we shorthand for communication
  • Learning: same thing happens, you respond differently “Same condition - new behavior”
  • Intelligence: How fast you change what you do in the same situation. Aka “rate of learning”
  • You may not have ever thought you were smart. But if you change you behavior, you can beat even the “smartest” person
  • Confidence: percentage likelihood that something happens (domain specific). Confidence comes from the past, not the present
  • How do you improve your confidence percentage? With proof (Do it a lot of times)
  • We get more for what we put in when we stick with things.
  • A smooth sea never made a skilled sailor
  • What makes you extraordinary isn’t what you do, it’s how long you’re willing to do it for.
  • Motivation comes from deprivation, and you motivation is proportional to your deprivation.
  • With money, deprivation is not physiological. It’s psychological
  • You only feel “poor” if you perceive a large gap between where you are and where you really want to be.
  • Hang around 5 people worth 10 times more than you, and you’ll feel poorer than you ever did when you were poor around poorer people than you. Aka: changing your “Minimum standard”

  • So if you want to BE a certain type of person, then you need to DO what the person DOES.
  • The work works on you more than you work on it.
  • People will eventually describe you that way when the evidence catches up.
  • When do you start: The moment you want to be the future version of yourself.
  • Winning comes down to making a decision you can 100% control
  • Everything must be hard before it can be easy
  • Hard times are opportunities to give yourself proof that even this couldn’t stop you
